About the job

Are you a Criminal Solicitor looking for an opportunity to take your career in a different direction? We’re looking for a Solicitor to join our Corporate Defence & Compliance team in Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a background in criminal law who wants to build their experience in financial crime, corporate investigations and regulatory work. For lawyers working in the legal aid criminal market, the CPS or criminal defence practice who enjoy the technical and investigative side of their work, this role offers the opportunity to build on that experience in complex financial and corporate matters. What will you be doing? Our Corporate Defence & Compliance team advises individuals and businesses facing investigations by law enforcement, regulatory and investigatory bodies. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced lawyers on complex, high-profile and often sensitive matters, including: - Fraud and financial crime investigations - Money laundering and proceeds of crime matters - Sanctions-related matters - Internal corporate investigations including bribery, fraud and corporate misconduct investigations - Competition and cartel investigations - Compliance and preventative advisory work The work is varied, with opportunities to work alongside colleagues across Brabners on complex multi-disciplinary matters that bring together criminal, regulatory, civil and corporate issues. Although the team is based in Leeds, the work is national, with opportunities to support matters involving clients and issues across different areas. What are we looking for? We’re particularly interested in hearing from Solicitors with around 1 to 3 years’ PQE who have built their foundations in criminal law and are now looking to develop a specialism in financial crime. Your experience might come from criminal defence, whether private or legal aid, the CPS, or a similar criminal law background. Experience attending police stations, representing clients at court or working as a Duty Solicitor would be particularly valuable. More importantly, we’re looking for someone who is: - Technically strong and comfortable getting into the detail - Experienced in dealing with criminal investigations and procedure - Curious and keen to develop their knowledge of financial crime - Comfortable working collaboratively on complex matters - Looking to build a long-term career within corporate defence, investigations and compliance You don’t need to already be a financial crime specialist. We’re looking for someone with strong criminal law foundations who we can support and develop into one. Why this opportunity? This isn’t simply another criminal law role. It’s an opportunity to take the skills you’ve already developed as a criminal lawyer and apply them within a different environment, working on financial crime, regulatory and corporate investigations. You’ll join a collaborative team where matters regularly overlap across different specialisms, giving you the opportunity to learn from experienced lawyers and develop a broad understanding of financial crime and corporate defence work, including financial services and tax. If you’re a criminal solicitor who enjoys the investigative and technical side of the job but is ready to develop a new specialism, we’d really like to hear from you.  BENEFITS - Competitive Salary - Flexible approach to working hours - Medicash - Discretionary bonus opportunities - Pension scheme - Life Insurance & Income Protection Insurance - 25 days Annual Leave plus flex bank holidays (increasing with service) - Option to buy 10 additional days annual leave each year - 2 My Days (in addition to your holiday entitlement) - Additional discretionary annual leave days - Enhanced Maternity, Paternity & Adoption Leave - Career Development Opportunities - Wellbeing and Mental Health Benefit (24/7 Employment Assistance Program & Support)  Agencies: We are not accepting CVs for this role as we are aiming to fill it directly. We value your support and will reach out if required. Please do not send speculative CVs. Any unsolicited CVs sent to hiring managers or the business, without prior instruction from a member of the Talent Acquisition team, will be treated as a gift.  ABOUT US Brabners is purpose-led independent law firm.
