Appendix Skilled Occupations

Does the salary reach the Skilled Worker minimum?

Choose the occupation and enter the salary. We apply the Home Office going rate for that job, the shortage list and the lower rates for new entrants and PhD holders.

Not sure of the code? Look it up with CASCOT or browse every occupation code. The employer chooses the code on your certificate.

Anything that lowers the minimum?

How the 70 points add up

  • 20 for a job offer from a licensed sponsor
  • 20 for a job at the required skill level
  • 10 for English at the required level
  • 20 for salary, through one of the options on the left

Rates from Appendix Skilled Occupations (updated 2026-08-03) and the Temporary Shortage List (updated 2026-07-20).

Jobs that meet the rulesEvery advert on our jobs page is checked the same way: the employer’s licence, the occupation and the salary.

Information from the published rules, not advice on your case.

70. Fifty are mandatory: a job offer from a licensed sponsor, a job at the required skill level, and English at the required level. The other 20 come from salary, through one of the options A to J in Appendix Skilled Worker.

Each SOC 2020 occupation code has its own going rate, and the salary must meet the higher of that rate and the general threshold. Since 22 July 2025 most medium-skilled codes (including care workers) can only be sponsored for people who already held Skilled Worker permission, unless the code is on the Temporary Shortage List.

Broadly: under 26 on the application date, switching from a Student or Graduate visa, or working towards a recognised professional qualification or in a postdoctoral role. GOV.UK lists the exact conditions.

No. It applies the published tables to the numbers you enter. The employer chooses the occupation code on your certificate of sponsorship, and your own circumstances can change which option applies.
