People coming to the UK for 6 months or more need a tuberculosis (TB) test if they have lived in India for 6 months or more and were living in India, or another listed country, within the last 6 months. The gov.uk page for India sets out this rule.
When the TB test applies
The guidance says both of these conditions must apply:
- The applicant has lived in India for 6 months or more.
- The applicant was living in India, or another listed country, within the last 6 months.
Visa types that also need the test
The gov.uk page says a TB test is also needed for people coming to the UK as:
- A fiancé, fiancée or proposed civil partner on a family visa.
- A returning resident who has been away from the UK for more than 2 years.
The page does not name the other countries on its list. The full rules are on the India TB test page on gov.uk (opens in a new tab).
