Transitional Protections

The UK government has provided transitional arrangements to protect existing visa holders from immediate impact of the new rules.

Existing Skilled Workers

If you started your first Skilled Worker visa by 21 July 2025 in a medium-skill job (RQF 3-5), you can continue and extend on old terms until 22 July 2028.

Applies to: Current visa holders in medium-skill roles

Health & Care Workers

Current Health & Care visa holders in social care roles can extend their visas until 22 July 2028, even though new applications are closed.

Applies to: Existing care worker visa holders

Graduate Visa

The current 2-year Graduate visa period applies to all applications made before 1 January 2027. The 18-month reduction only affects applications from 2027 onwards.

Applies to: Students graduating before 2027

What This Means for You

Higher Requirements

New applicants need graduate-level jobs (RQF 6+) and higher salaries (£41,700+). Make sure your job offer meets these criteria.

Plan Ahead

If you're planning to apply, be aware of upcoming changes like the B2 English requirement from January 2026.

Check Your Status

If you already have a visa, review the transitional rules to understand your rights and extension options.
